I had an electrician friend come out yesterday to give me an estimate on outside outlets. He was telling me horror stories of the county inspectors & the stupidity of some of their legalities, & I was wondering if NEPA had the same ridiculous "laws"????

One story he told was of a painter friend he's known for 35 years. The painter was painting the walls of an apartment complex & his client asked if he'd paint the old park bench right there to match the wall color. He agreed no problem.

One of the county inspectors showed up while one of his crew was painting the bench & fined him!!! They said his license only allowed him & his crew to paint VERTICALLY, & since the guy was painting horizontally on the bench, he was in violation!!!

This was just ONE of the stories he told me, & now I'm paranoid to have a final electrical inspection once he's done!!!

Do y'all have such stupidity up in NEPA???

Thats small potatoes to our inspectors.. I put an addition on, pulled permits etc. ONE YEAR LATER the city inspectors showed up and wanted to inspect the wiring...lol, I showed them the outlets...shoulda just kicked them out.....

Plenty of horror stories out of Scrantons L&I Dept...you could write a book, or a screenplay..Anyone know if Sorvino would be interested??? LOL

Be very afraid..... Seriously, I know what you mean..... our Insurance company made us update our electrical.....but the inspectors were ok. But, we also ordered a roof inspection (for insurance) and the company sent out a wind mitigation surveyor...who cannot "do" roofs....though the majority of his inspection involves the roof, since that is the dwelling's weakest link.

Now we have to have a proper, roof inspector on Friday (crosses fingers), so we shall see.

We moved into our present home almost 5 years ago. My basement was finished. Our neighbour complained that we had a tenant ; we didnt ; he just saw friends moving my furniture into my basement and called the town instead of talking to me.

Well they came to inspect ; now we didnt finish it, so we do not know who did the work. But now we need to get electrical certs, gas certs etc. So far because of my horrid neighbour it has cost me over $1000.

In business, many issues are being enforced due to lack of funding from the government ; instead fines are being tacked on where they used to be not enforced.
