Has anyone turned a screened in porch to a living room??I am in the process of buying a house in The Hideout and need more living area I am considering turning the screened porch to a dining room and then adding a small bedroom..HAs Anyone ever done it if so any idea of how much it would cost and any good trustworthy contractors in the area..

You have to be careful with that. The previous homeowner may have just added a screen room to an existing deck, and if this is true, it may not be built to withstand the load of living space. That room may not sit on a foundation, but rather on piers...

Yes, you have to have the correct foundation like Poconoproud has said.......
I did do over a screen porch in NJ to a babies bedroom. It was under a regular foundation though and the same continuous roof. We just winterized it. Brought new windows, moved a heat line into there.......and then we had a fantastic baby room. Loved it!

I do know people that have done it and have been successful. I think a big part of it is finding people to do the job that know what they are doing!

Everything that you do now needs permits, the township would have to come out and make sure it is done right. Any decent contractor also knows just how to do it correctly. Contractors do that sort of job all the time.

the trick is finding a decent contractor...unfortunately there are many out there who do those kind of jobs without permits all the time.
