City picks Mexican restaurant to replace Molly Brannigans - News - The Times-Tribune (http://www.thetimes-tribune.com/news/city_picks_mexican_restaurant_to_replace_molly_bra nnigans - broken link)

The owner of Kildares plans to open a new Mexican restaurant in the vacant spot in the Casey Garage that used to be the home of Molly Brannigan's in downtown Scranton.

To me, this is great news! It is one less empty storefront downtown and hopefully it will attract more people to that part of downtown. It should also be a good addition to the new 500 block. I am actually interested in the Spanish and Mexican cultures and language so I personally can't wait to see this place!

Too bad the majority of the "Doomers" who have infected the city like a virus had to pee in the punch bowl with all of their negative vitriol.

Actually, according to WBRE Eyewitness News, it will be called Mexicali Blue Cantina and Grill.

There are a few AUTHENTIC Mex restaurants in the city that deserve some patronage, they pay taxes!!!
A Mexican Dining establishment owned by a Non Hispanic who is KOZ is nothing more than an ethnic McDonalds!

My thoughts exactly. A Chili's would be OK. I'm just glad its not the Hardware Bar....we don't need any more 20-something bars that cater to getting people as falling down drunk as possible.

If its just a regular Mexican restaurant owned by a bunch of Irish guys, it will fail. We already have La Tonalteca up by the mall, which is run by Mexicans. I love their food. Supposedly there are also a few small Mexican places in South Side. Plus, if its the owners of Kildare's, it will be overpriced. I ate at Kildare's once, and while it wasn't bad, it was nothing special and it was way overpriced. That's why I think if its a Chili's franchise, that would be better than just some "Mexican" restaurant run by Kildare's.

Mark my words, it will be mediocre food (at best) and overpriced, just like Kildare's. People should do themselves a favor and hit La Tonalteca for Mexican food. This Mexicali Blue place will probably just be another Don Pablo's, which was lousy in my opinion.
