Hey everyone, I have a friend who lives in Albrightsville who told me that electricity went up by 30% in January and now her bill is $549.00 which previously was $189.00

PPL's rate caps ended in January and yes, a 30% increase is what is to be expected. I'm not sure what happened in your friend's case. She should probably call PPL because $189 increased to $549 must be due to something else or a mistake.

yes. mine went from 94 to 167. I havent been at the house since December. So its not jsut me. We set the bathroom temps at min and turn off the heat in the rest of the house. There is a heater in teh crawl space that comes on when the temp there goes under 40.

That's a lot more than 30%, unless you were using more electricity than normal, something's wrong. Mine went from around 70 to 105, which is about right.

It went from unusually warm to unusually cold pretty quick. Maybe if the meter read date was the day that happened it might explain the jump. At least my PPL bill has a 13 month graph and notes average temperature for the billing cycle this year vs. last. Useful to compare the kWh that way.

There is an electric choice option in PA. I signed up with Dominion (sp?) and their rate is 10% lower than PP&L

I think our bill was $150.00........but, then again part of the bill was December when we were home.
I have an all electric house. But, as for January we were not home. The bath temps were as low as they go about 50........The rest were off. The kitchen was quite low also.

you can register as a member of PP&L on their website and it will show you how many kwh you have used so far for the upcoming bill. It also lists graphs and such to help you see when you use the most electricity
