Wow! (Tumbleweed rolling on by. Crickets chirping. People grieving.) Is it about time we put the NEPA sub-forum out to pasture already?

What has happened to this sub-forum? Before I relocated and started contributing more to (and becoming embroiled within) other forums the NEPA sub-forum was one of the most active on City-Data, attracting dozens of new posts each day. Now we're lucky to see one new thread started daily, and more often than not it's not someone seeking relocation-oriented advice but rather someone starting a "chat"-type thread or a troll slamming the region.

Where have all the "regulars" gone? I LOVE PA, memoriesbre, greentown, NYRangers 2008, Jungle George, weluvpa, EnyaGirl, Retired Law 08, scrantonluna, CHS89, donnanhonesdale, shoegal111, etc., etc., where have y'all gone? I know we're all more active now with Facebook, but have we all generally arrived at the consensus that this forum is always going to have to be a shell of its former self? I haven't even seen toobusytoday around as much as of late.

Is there anything that can be done to "save" this forum? I'm not saying we have to return to the days of the same six of we "macho" guys arguing about Scranton politics while everyone else grabbed the popcorn and watched the carnage unfold as our poor moderator had a coronary slapping us with infractions, but when I was most active here in 2006-2008 this forum was a model for many other sub-forums. I inspired others to post their own photo tours. Summering could interject with....her....inspiring thoughts...and truly make anyone smile. Jungle George would post some potty humor and make everyone laugh. Newcomers seeking help were in abundance. We kicked around the idea of a forum "meet-and-greet" all the time. Now it's dead.

What would get people to start contributing again?

P.S. I know this is "off-topic", but it should still stand just long enough for people to give ideas on what can be done to bring back the scores who left.

Maybe it's the economy? Maybe it is Facebook like you said. I do spend more time there posting to friends than I do here now. I still check this page from time to time like now but I lately have had nothing positive to say. I posted alot a few years back because of a huge reserve of optimism that has dwindled in recent months. I generally do not like to post negatively so until I feel more optimistic, I will not type much.

Nice to see you posting Reston Runner, I was glad to find out that you found some renewed sense of being in your life.

I spend more time on Facebook because #1, I can more easily ignore people who annoy me - I can unfriend them or hide their updates so I don't see their constant gripes, whines, complaints, tales of woe, etc.

I see George A LOT - I post on his comments a LOT. Several CD friends are active and I keep up with them there.

I also like that I can post a comment on my wall on ANY TOPIC I LIKE and it won't get moderated, moved, deleted, etc. This board is ANNOYING in some ways.

We've discussed this many times & we all know the answer...this forum will never be the same. People have grown frustrated with the new regime tactics, left, & gone to Facebook. Period.

Pity, since this used to be the friendliest, "homeyist", most helpful forum on CD.

C'mon over to Facebook mathjak...the water's fine & you can post your beautiful pix there with no fear of repercussions!!!

Now let's see how long it takes for this thread to be closed...three...two...one...

The forum has moved into the more informative source for those that will never move here and those that can't believe they moved here and those that have no idea what the poconos are really like....

Its as dead as the proverbial dead horse and posting often is just a beating of said horse.

IMHO we can blame those(and you know who you are) that felt the need to constantly complain to the mods about posts, instead of the ignore button, those that reported every post that THEY DIDN'T AGREE WITH or those that just plain and simply whined like little babies.

They changed the dynamic of the forum and then ran for the door as fast as possible as soon as it wasn't fun anymore, THANKS GUYS.

Where are they now I ask? Yep that is what I thought.
