Hi all,

I’m starting a new job and am wondering about my commute. I live in Woodbridge, and will be working in old town right off king street.
I will be driving, and I don’t have to be at work until 11:45am. How early do you thin i need to leave, I was thinking about 10:30am, and I will need to find street parking. Where is the best place to park in old town if you are working there, I know there is 2 hour parking, but I will be working for 8 hours....

-I know I can go 95...but the one time I took it I got totally confused bc of the 395, and 495 exits, and mapquest and google maps did not help with this route...
-I can take route 1, but there are so many lights, but what if I take route then get on 235, and then 629 (where the Mount Vernon is) ????
Thanks for help in advance

It's literally just a straight shot into Alexandria from WB. You can exit off of 395 into 495/95 headed east and that will take you into Old Town right before you go over the bridge. If you go over the bridge, your'e screwed and will end up in PG County Mod Cut OR....

Take the Duke street exit (236 I believe) and that will also lead you into OT.

But yeah, seriously it should take a 30-45 mins most days. It will take a little getting use to. When I first moved here that whole 495/395 interchange would wreck havoc on my GPS and we would only get lost. Just remember you don't take the exits labeled for Tysons Corner or Washington DC.

I do beleive you will make most folks jealous on this site with that start time and location! 30 mins tops to get to Old Town at that time of the day.

The commute is easy, I agree; however, you need to figure out a parking solution because the City of Alexandria is not exactly lax when it cones to enforcement. You could easily spend the cost of parking in a few tickets.

Garages are less expensive in North Old Town than areas closer to the water. I know that the Union Street garage is among the highest, and the same company manages other garages that are slightly less expensive to $40 less per month on the north side of OT. I would expect to pay $125-$175, depending upon garage, less if your employer has a preferred arrangement with a partcular facility or management company.

I live in Woodbridge and work in Old Town off of King Street too!

When I drive in I usually take some back roads to get to rt1 by lorton and make my way to Mount Vernon Hwy/GW Pkwy. Usually takes an hour or so since I catch traffic by Ft. Belvoir but thats at 7-8am. At your time I would expect it'll take you 30-45mins.

As far as parking, our employer pays for our garage parking. I've found all day parking on North Fayette across from the Five Guys but it's very rare that you can actually get those spaces but lucky if you do!
