In your opinion, What are the best DC Metro area employers? - A place you could work for the rest of your life, a company with good benefits, a company you know will stand the test of time, a company that looks good on the resume.

Booz Allen?
Lockheed Martin?
Northrum Grumman?
SAIC?

What do you think?

I've always heard very good things about TASC. In the Federal Govt., I've heard the Census Bureau is a relatively easy-going place to work. I'm not sure if it looks good on a resume, but at least you'd enjoy working there.

Anyone know any info about the rumors that Northrop Grumman is setting itself up to sell off? I know they are selling off the Ship building portion. But i have heard rumor that NG is maybe selling everything. If that happens, then NG will not be standing the test of time.

Both Northrop and Lockheed have to sell certain divisions because of conflict of interest problems. It happens from time to time. Companies release the bird in the hand to go after a bigger bird in the bush. That's the only thing I've heard about... but then, again, I'm not in the loop when it comes to defense contractors.

Janelia Research Center is a very good place to work, I've heard. Also, Wegman's.

.
Northrop already sold off their portion that was a conflict. That was TASC. I only know that because I work for TASC. Otherwise I probably would have never known about the sell and the conflict of interest and all that. I heard from a lady here that Lockheed just struck a deal with an investment company to buy off their conflict portion. I don't know what it is called.

In regards to the question by the OP, in the defense industry coming from the military is about the best thing you can do. I work with a TON of former military. I feel left out not being former military or at least the spouse of a military person.

My husband has been working for Symantec for six years now, and it's a great company, with excellent benefits. Not only do they have great insurance coverage, leave, wellness programs, stock purchase plan and awards, tuition assistance, and discount programs, but they have an adoption assistance program. They will reimburse up to $10,000 per child for adoption expenses.

Their HQ is in Silicon Valley, but they have local offices in Alexandria and Herndon. I just checked their current job openings, and there are 49 positions in the area, most based in Alexandria.

I've been working for TASC since they were part of Northrop (2.5 years so far). I like it, from an engineering perspective not much room to grow inside the company. They have been good to me so far. Not the best salary payers though.
