I just moved to the area and seek a church with characteristics:

Contemporary, upbeat - Bible based/non-denominational
Great music - band, not necessarily a formal choir
Relaxed and hospitable - Coffee station/cafe available
Casual dress ok (shorts, t-shirts, etc)
Couples groups, community involvement/activities

I think the McLean Bible Church, about 15 minutes from Reston down Route 7, might be what you'd like. This church is massive and even has its own parking garage. It is on the right-hand side of Route 7 as you're heading out of Reston, just before coming into Tysons Corner.

I personally like my own church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, in unincorporated Herndon, but it is denominational and the attire is very formal (most males wear at least a tie for some reason). Otherwise it fits your other criteria. Our services are very inspirational and uplifting, we have excellent musical programs, great things for the kids, adult study groups, a book club, a library, and plentiful volunteer opportunities. We have a community center sort of room where social functions are held. Our pastor is amazing, too.

I've heard great things about St. Anne's Episcopal Church, along Wainwright Drive, as well. There are houses of worship for just about every (or perhaps every) denomination here in Reston.
