Which would you recommend for convenience, price, offerings, etc? We've typically had Y memberships but have now moved to Fairfax County and trying to figure out which is better. We used classes a lot, kids activities a lot and someone in our family (hub, me and kid) was at the Y at least 2-3 times a week either working out or taking a class. Curious to hear from folks who have used both? We're near Huntington Metro but will most likely use facilities on weekends and evenings.

Have you already visited the Mt Vernon rec center (the closest rec center to Huntington)? It is popular for swimming and ice skating. There is a good community of dedicated ice skaters (both hockey and figure skating) and very good instructors. It has a workout room with weights and various exercise machines. I've also seen guitar lessons held there for kids. I can't compare with the Y because I've never used one.

To be honest I don't recall seeing a Y anywhere...I've been to 3 REC centers, Lee, South Run and Cub Run, and they are pretty great.

The only Y I've ever seen around here is in Reston.
