I'm thinking of buying a grass-fed whole cow, anyone has done that before? How is it? Any recommendation for local farms? I'm in Vienna area.

Call someone like Guard Hill Meats out in Front Royal. There's definitely butchers closer in, but I'm just going on what I am familiar with.

You can go to
www.eatwild.com to find local grass-fed ranchers. You can get a whole cow from them, and many have "cowpools" where you can buy a share of a whole cow either with folks you know or they can gather up say four folks who each want 1/4 share. The folks who want more of the premium cuts will pay more for their share.
