Tonight when I came home from work there were 200.

How long will they last and what can I do about them besides vacuuming? We have no idea how they're getting in. We don't leave windows open. This is really annoying!
You poor thing, that's awful. Have you brought any plants, herbs or similar in from outside that may have been infested with eggs? That could be a source.

If they're all getting in from the outside, I'd try spraying all your window frames and door frames and edges on siding, roof vents, etc., on the outside with some sort of bug killer, hoping that any residue would deter them from entering.

could you be confusing stink bugs with assassin bugs, which look sorta similar?

stink bugs are just thick in MD as well, the worst i've ever seen. normally one of my cats will kill anything buglike that runs/flies/crawls, but not these..
fun fact: in korea, japan and china, they are called 'stinky big sisters'

Oh wow! Just another reason I like reading this forum, we don't have those in Florida, I would have squashed it! I read the article, but I didn't see (or missed) how long the season was. Is it just when it's cool? Or will they be here all winter? I will have to show the bug to my husband so we don't squish them!

From the Washington Post article that movingtodcfromseatlle posted:

"They travel easily - hitching rides on the backs of buses, in packing materials, on cement blocks - and adapt to winter in homes."

Indeed -- there was one riding inside my Orange Line subway car to Vienna this evening. And I didn't see him carrying a farecard.

What do you know... I actually had a couple of these in my townhouse entry foyer but had no idea what they were. I just took them outside (on a paper towel or in a cup or whatever), as I do all bugs. Just another reason not to step on bugs, I s'pose.

Too bad they can't do yard work. We love unauthorized migrants as long as we can exploit them.

We were at Stribling Apple Orchard in Markham, VA this morning. The stink bugs were out of control! Flying into us, landing on our apples. Argh.....so annoying.

Too bad chickens can't fly high enough to catch the ones hanging near my roof!
