If you're new to Nova, one of our quirkier events is the Dulles Plane Pull. If you want to participate, I believe you have to pay $10. If you just want to watch people pulling planes, it's free. And oddly amusing!

The Plane Pull is just what you think it is: Teams of 25 racing to see which team can pull their airplane the fastest. They have to pull their plane 25 feet.

The money raised benefits the Special Olympics. So if you're looking for something off-the-wall to do, this is one of those things you've got to see once. It takes place at Dulles Airport September 25, as part of Dulles Day Family Festival. The festival runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Has anyone been to this? What else do they do besides the plane pull?

We used to put a team in back when it started quite a few years ago. We even won the thing a couple years running. We had some big strong police officers. The thing was getting bigger each year with planes and heli's there to look at as well as food. Seems they had some things for kids as well but it's been years since I've been there.

That sounds like so much fun and for a great cause too! We'll have to do it next year.

If you do go, please take pictures and report back. I just wish you got to pull a Boeing 777 instead of the Airbus.

Yes. Obviously infants will see nothing entertaining for them but they've had things for small kids in the past. It has always been a family type event.

It is a neat event, they had last year a bunch of old and modified sports cars there, various military planes(10 of them or so) you can go in and out of, climb up and in a real FedEx cargo jet and get close up on the cockpit and all the instruments they use, music, food, snow removal display they use at IAD and more. Will be going in the morning when it is cooler outside
