We are looking to plan a 3-day weekend and have always gone up to Ski Liberty/Liberty Mountain but I'd like to try something different.

Where do young families go to teach the little ones how to ski and snowboard?

We'd like to stay away from crowds a much as possible -- is this possible??

Thanks everyone and Happy New Year to all

We havent skied in years, but Canaan Valley in West VA is nice. ISTR that they had good ski programs for little kids, and good bunny slopes.

Wintergreen -- south of Charlottesville -- is a great place for beginners -- big enough but not overly crowded. There's an atheletic center with a beautiful indoor pool, too. We rented a two bedoom with loft condo with a kitchen and beautiful views a couple times when our kids were in the 8-14 age bracket for weekends and it was a perfect getaway.

Have fun!

Another vote for Wintergreen.

We like Bryce Resort in the Shenandoah Valley. It is small but never crowded. And great for learning. Very mom and pop.

I have never skied at Seven Springs (prefer Vail and Snomass) but here is a link to today's Groupon

Another vote for Bryce. A great and long beginner hill, much nicer and far less crowded than the closer-in resorts.
But if you want to avoid crowds, do NOT go on a federal holiday weekend, or the Fairfax County teacher workdays. All of your friends and neighbors will be there those days.

For a 3-day weekend, I'd recommend going to Snowshoe in West Va; it's probably just a tad over 4 hours to get there depending on what part of loudoun you're in.

It's one of the largest resorts in the mid-atlantic and probably has the most variety from beginners to advanced skiers/snowboarders

Snowshoe, Canaan Valley or Timberline in WV. Wisp in western Maryland.

Possibly Massanutten? They have a pretty nice indoor waterpark too.
