Can anyone tell me if this hotel in Alexandria is in a safe/unsafe neighborhood?

It is the Travelodge in a historic area near the Potomac waterfront and the Braddock Road metro station.

Travelodge

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Default It has been several years, but...

About 10 years ago I lived a block away from that hotel and worked a block away in the other direction at a professional association. At that time it was safe. The Alexandria "projects" begin a couple of blocks behind the hotel, though. And you kind of have to walk by that to get to the metro (at least you did a decade ago). But as a mid-20s single female I never had any problems. My rental house was next door to the subsidized housing and I walked to work and to the metro all the time. It is a convenient location, not a bad walk to King Street and the river. So it depends on your tolerance I guess. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in the area (can't vouch for the hotel itself.)

This is not a hotel that has ever had pretensions. It's inexpensive and you will get what you pay for. If you're used to velvet ropes and glass elevators, this may not be quite the place.

you should be alright Alexandria is not a dangerous city even though that part is a little higher in crime than the rest of the city, but Alexandria does not have much have violent crime. it won't be like being in the projects in DC and all the drive-by shootings and robberies even though that part is in the projects. if you were staying in the Alexandria part of Fairfax Co. i'd be more concerned.

Is there a reason why you want to be in Alexandria? If not, one of the District's last family-run hotels is the Harrington. It's in an A1-safe area in the heart of downtown DC, right off Pennsylvania Avenue near the National, Warner, and Fords Theaters. Rates run 89-169 per night. Not posh, but for the money, very hard to beat...

Hi! I am sorry to have to say this but please please do not stay at that hotel! I just found this forum about a month ago and read here or there but I felt compelled to figure out how to register, (not easy for someone computer challenged and not experienced with messaged boards) because I had to say it is not a safe place to stay at all. It is a motel with the room doors facing the parking lot, it very run down and there is a lot of drug activity there and I have heard mention of prostitution as well. This very motel was on the local news not to long ago because of these problems and the residents of nearby areas are greatly concerned. I am sorry I do not have another recommendation for you but please trust me this is not where you want to stay. Good luck.
