I didn't find the answer to this on the Arlington County site so I'm asking here. We don't generate a lot of trash. We probably generate 1 kitchen trash bag per week. Arlington County gives us one of those large black bins and it probably takes us 1 month to fill it half way.

With the snow and all it's such as hassle to take the bin out and in for just one bag. And, if you let it accumulate, the back area starts to smell.

We recycle in the blue bin, but that can fill up and then we take it out. And, that has the benefit of not stinking.

I don't know if they would take it or not, but it's probably best to use it so it doesn't attracted animals like rats or raccoons who will rip open and spread your trash everywhere.

I have a big green bin like you are talking about. Sometimes I only have one bag in it, I still put it out every collection.

Another option is, if your neighbor is similarly situated, if you could take turns sharing one bin every other week. For example, this week, you could agree that both of you would put stuff in your bin and you would take it to the curb, and next week you'll both put stuff in his/her bin and s/he takes it to the curb.

I think generally they will NOT take it if it is not in a bin for the reason jillabean indicated.

I wouldn't put just a bag out - dogs, cats, possums, raccoons, etc. will tear it up.

Oops, missed the previous response on this.
