Thought I would share this. Very intriguing. Unfortunately, I know nothing beyond what's in this article.

Wow.

FYI -- prior to going to Arlington, Superintendent Murphy was with Fairfax County Public Schools for 19 years.

Arlington Public Schools | Superintendent's Office (http://www.apsva.us/1540104114240100/site/default.asp - broken link)

"An Arlington County resident, Dr. Murphy has been an educator for 21 years, serving the Fairfax County Public Schools for 19 of those years in a variety of instructional leadership positions. During the last four years, he has served as assistant superintendent for accountability in Fairfax, where he has been responsible for testing, research and evaluation, and division- and school-based strategic planning."

Around NoVA, this is not surprising. There are some very deceitful, manipulative people in the school management business.

Wonder what the real story to this is?

Why are you attributing unique malice and evil to Northern Virginia?

It's not unique--I said it's not surprising. Abuse of power is everywhere, but there is a lot of power in this area. Arrogance and greed, too.

Point taken, although a personality clash between a former PE teacher and a principal sporting some of the wackiest floral patterns since Carmen Miranda does not strike me as one of the DC region's more epic power struggles.

The Washington Post submits a sketchy report:

Arlington principal resigns, blaming superintendent for 'hostile work environment'

Abuse of power (especially within schools) is not acceptable. Unfortunately, the school system makes it very difficult to speak out when it happens. How does one get the superintendent fired if he abuses his position? Principals rarely get fired, it seems. They just get moved to a different school.

The many ineffective school administrators make the work of the great ones that much harder. School systems--especially in this area--need fewer central office administrators.

I read through all the posts. Evidently the principal wanted to get rid of a staffer she thought was disruptive. No idea what the details are there, but the principal's statement that the superintendent retaliated against her by giving her an "unsatisfactory" rating is worrisome. That's a major abuse of power.

I smell lawsuit. And if the principal's claims are true, I hope she wins.
