Does anyone know of any apartments (one bed for less than $1200/month) with easy/fast access through bus/shuttle to Hungtington Station?

Anything along Rte 1/Richmond Highway has easy access to Huntington Metro station. There are also plenty of apartments within walking distance of Huntington as well. I am not sure of the price point or these apartment or what you consider fast.

A new building is under construction or just completed next door to the station, but I'm not sure if it's an apartment or condo structure.

I'd try Riverside Apts or Belle Haven Towers.

Of the garden apartments further south, I'd recommend Mount Vernon Square with hesitation. It's has the nicest amenities of the low-rises (fitness center, pool, playground, day care center), some retail (including Safeway) is walkable or a three-minute drive, and there bus stop at the entrance to the complex and is a 15-20 minute ride to Huntington Metro depending on which bus you take. On the other hand, it also has issues ranging from noise violations to (not-so) petty crime. Your other choices won't be any better.

Belle Haven Towers, as suggested, will be the only high-rise apartment on or near Huntington Avenue that will offer 1BR apts and studios under $1200 (unless you luck out with a private owner at one of the condos adjacent to the Metro). You will be a healthy walk away from the Metro.

Here's a tip: On the way home, get off at King Street and catch the REX (Richmond Highway Express) bus from there. Crawling through the Carlyle area will be maddening but, unlike those waiting in the long lines at Huntington, you will have a seat.

Just remember: $1200 is towards the low end for a 1BR here. As much as the amenities are improving along Route 1, there is a reason why most of the apartments are relatively affordable so close-in.
