They probably have shorter meetings, with a dog as president:

Annandale civic association elects dog as president

Some people were actually upset about it. Guess they did not bother to find out who this individual really was!

I can think of a few that should hire Dog the Bounty Hunter.

That is too funny. I probably would have voted for the dog though (knowing who the owner was).

It is harder to volunteer these days for that sort of thing, especially if you have children and work. When I first moved here I joined my neighborhood civic association and we met once a month for 2-3 hours... they just dragged everything out. And then there were the non meeting hours of making newsletters, making phone calls, etc.

I once made a motion that from now on, all meetings had to be conducted standing (thinking that would keep people to the point)--but it didn't fly of course. Everyone was too interested in gossiping and making it a social even (and I just wanted to get back home an unwind after a long day of work and commute). I served 3 years on that association and I have volunteered for another since, I just don't have the time now with a young child.

"Woof once for passing the motion, twice if you're against it. Now wag your tails and adjourn the meeting so we can all go howl at the moon."

Hey, that's an HOA meeting I'd go to!!!

So, when one of the homeowners has a complaint, do they go to the new president and say "I've got a bone to pick with you"?

Well, you know what they say about those civic association officers. They're all bark and no bite.
