Any suggestions on places out by Dulles to meet new and interesting people?

OMG, this is too funny--I've gone out with that group too. I'll bet I've hiked with you. I'll have to bring up city data next time I do something with them.

OP--This is indeed a nice group of people. If you try it out, you can also ask other people what other groups they belong to. Lots of people seem to do two or three different things.

In addition to all the meetup groups, Reston has a lot of other clubs you can join. Some have little fees, but most are free. (Other nearby towns have a lot of organizations, as well, but Reston and Herndon seem to be sort of a central gathering place and their groups tend to be bigger, so I'd start there.) There's something for every interest, from runners groups to sports to theater groups to all sorts of art and music groups. The Reston RA has a list of lots of them, and you can probably find others in the local paper.

I would also check out the Herndon Toastmasters. I went a few years ago and it was a fun little group of about 20-25 people, mostly in their late 20s and early 30s. They practice speeches and most of them are fairly funny, so it can be a fun evening.
