My husband will be commuting to Crystal City, and I will be working at the local hospital (which we want to live near-5-10miles). Question is-which hospital to work at, with the best commute for my husband. We want to rent a house around $2500, nice schools, not too far out, safe for the kids. Inova Loudoun County, Fair Oaks, Reston Hospital, Prince William-any one with some insight on the hospitals? I need help-Thanks!!

The best hospital in my opinion is Fairfax Hospital. Living around this hospital would give your husband the shortest commute as well. All the others are at least another 30 minutes away, not taking rush hour traffic into account.

For a commute that makes Crystal City and a hospital nearby, Alexandria or Arlington would probably be your best bet...they border Crystal City and both have hospitals (Inova Alexandria Hospital and Arlington Hosptal). Like dmovj3 said...the other hospitals add too much to the commute. They're all on the western side of Northern VA and Crystal City is on the eastern side.

Yes, Alexandria Hospital or Arlington Hospital (which is now officially called something else -- Virginia Hospital Center or something like that -- but everyone still refers to it as Arlington Hospital) would be best in relation to Crystal City.

Default relocating to NOVA???

Thanks for the info-We would like to rent a newer sfh for around $2500, it seems that Alexandria is too expensive. I figured my husband will have to have a pretty long commute, but at least I could be close to work. That's why I mentioned the hospitals before. We are trying to figure out the best place to live, $reasonable, close to VRE or Metro, and near good hospital to work at-easy huh? We thought about Ashburn or Reston?????

A commute from Ashburn or Reston to Crystal City would be absolute torture for your husband. And yes it will be tough to find a newer SFH in that area in your price range. Have you considered a town house? There are plenty in your price range in Kingstowne (located in Alexandria). You can find newer SFHs in Lorton, which is a pretty easy commute to Crystal City and Alexandria or Arlington/VA Hospital Center. There are some nice ones in Lorton Valley, Lorton Station, and Hunter Estates.

Default Renting in Reston

We are renting out our house which is a single family home for $2700 - walking distance to Reston Hospital. It is beautiful with a nice yard and quiet, friendly neighbourhood. Best of all, great schools and walk to everything!!! Let me know if this is of interest to you!

Try the neighborhoods near the Dunn Loring and Vienna stops on Metro's Orange Line. Dunn Loring is on Gallows Road, just down the street from Fairfax Hospital. You probably won't find "newer" SFHs for rent -- many rentals in northern Virginia are either longtime investment properties or diplomat/military homes rented out while their owners are posted overseas, and these homes are not usually new.
