Will be taking the VCLA's in just over a week. I went through the practice exams I was wondering if there were any tips on taking the test?

I've been out of school for a while and am concerned about the persuasive essays. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Hoping to pass it the first try.......

The teaching literacy test? I found it really easy, and I'm a math person, not a writing person. My essay was something about whether or not gambling should be legalized in Virginia. The advice my university adviser gave us was not to worry about studying for the VCLA, just to relax and go in and take it. (Spend your studying time on the Praxis II if you're going for secondary!)

If English isn't your first language, it may be tougher, but a native English speaker shouldn't have too much trouble.

It's just a good old 5-paragraph essay, same as for any other test (sat, gre, anything with an essay). If you're really concerned about it, any prep book for test essays will help you.

I don't know anything about the test, I just want to wish you good luck. I'm currently studying for an exam for this Friday so I know the kind of pressure you're under. Good luck, and now back to studying myself

I did not find it particularly hard.

Our persuasive essay topic was to argue for or against state lotteries. It caught me off guard because I was expecting to write about a teaching strategy or something else related to instruction.

Everyone I know who's taken it has passed on the first try.

Best wishes to you!

Bparis-- it was honestly easier than I thought it would be. I will say though that it is a long test, so my best advice is get plenty of rest the night before and just take your time.
