Hello, all. Due to all of the very, very, very, informative threads on traffic in the Nova area, my husband and I are looking to move closer to the Beltway, such as the Alexandria area (prior to that, we were looking in Woodbridge).
As far as commuting goes, how bad would traffic be from Alexandria to Fairfax or Falls Church? Please advise....

Thanks again..I guess that I would be going against traffic or is that an innaccurate assumption? Please advise

What is a fair assessment of the time to Falls Church or Fairfax during rush hour from Alexandria?

Hi there! If you live and work around 236, you have the option of riding the bus from Fairfax to Alexandria and back -- the 29K and 29N will both take you there. I used to live at Fairfax Square Apts. on 236, and I'd take the 29K to and from work in Alexandria. The ride was about an hour each way.

Driving would probably be a little bit quicker. You can hop on the Beltway in Alexandria and get off either at Route 50 in west Fairfax or at 236 in Annandale, depending on which part of Fairfax you need to get to.

There's really no such thing as a reverse commute around here, but you might save a LITTLE time by heading away from D.C. in the morning and toward it in the evening.

I can't say anything about Falls Church ... never lived there and haven't spent much time there. I hope this helps in some way, though!

I would allow 1 hour depending on where in Alexandria and where in Fairfax and what time of day you are traveling. Rush hour around here starts about 630am for the morning commute and about 330p for the evening. There are many stop lights, buses and trucks to deal with along the way, even on the secondary roads.

Whoops. Should have mentioned that the Route 50 exit in Fairfax is off I-66, which you get from the Beltway ...
