And even though we're not in Maryland, we still get questions about it sometimes - it's Silver Spring (with no "s" at the end) - not Silver Springs.
I agree and I'm someone who is guilty of confusing the two words! I hate it when don't use the correct word.

A couple of years back I heard a commercial on the radio--don't even remember what it was for--that said they were in Arlington, Fairfax, and "now coming to 'La-doon'" with emphasis on the second syllable. It took me awhile to even realize what they had said.

I don't mind a misspelling or two from people asking questions. What cracks me up is every once in awhile we'll get someone who claims to be a local expert and yet can't spell the county's name. Yah right.

Sorry, but I'm not taking advice from someone who says he's lived here for decades--but still doesn't know how to spell "Loudoun".

Is it really that big a deal? It is pronounced Lou-den, someone is going to spell it wrong. Most who are relocating there or already there have graduated college and/or have advanced degrees or have very skilled jobs. I'm sure folks can overlook a poor spelling job by otherwise smart folks. SHEESH!!

You know how many ways I have my name of Alan misspelled? I just let it go with nothing more than a small explanation, sometimes.

People using then instead of than as a comparative really bugs me: "My commute is longer then yours."

It's not really *that* big of a deal on C-D or in casual writing, but I imagine it could be a big deal to a potential employer. To me, it has nothing to do with being smart, but being thorough and paying attention to detail. If someone cannot bother to notice or look up how a word is spelled, how can I expect him to be thorough in other areas?

And I don't think it's awful to be new to this area and misspell something like Loudoun or Silver Spring, but for someone who lives here for a long time, he should know how a major county and city are spelled.

I would love to get a citation for wreckless driving. Hopefully, gift certificates to a local restaurant or something along those lines. Also, I believe AllState insurance encourages wreckless driving as well.

Maybe the person was typing on his or her I-phone/touch/pad and it auto-corrected to Loudon (like Loudon, New Hampshire) who knows.. I've been in LOUDOUN county for 9 years and sometimes I forget the 2nd U when typing..
