Well, my AC quit on me and now I have to find an AC repair company. Any suggestions on reputable and reliable and fair AC repair companies? I've been looking at companies like Sears and Vernon heating but really can't be too sure how reliable or fair they are. Any suggestions?

We've used Brennan's before with no problem.

Also, depending on where you live in NoVA some local companies can work well. For instance, I live in Woodbridge and my neighbor has been very happy with Davis-Ford Heating and AC. I'm sure they go anywhere but are located between Manassas and Woodbridge. They have been very fair with her pricewise.

Just a few weeks ago I used these guys: Woody's Sudden Service Inc Reviews | Manassas VA | Angies List

My outside compressor suddenly quit, and they were able to repair it for $208. The unit is pretty old and they could have easily tricked me into replacing the entire unit/furnace for $$$$$. I also asked them to give me a rough estimate on a complete replacement since I know the units are old.

I used Vernon's before and it didn't go well so I would stay away from them. You can PM me if you want for the reason why. That's why we wound up going to Duvalls.

They replaced the compressor for 200 bucks? I kinda doubt that...maybe a relay or a capacitor...

BTW, there is only one compressor (unless you have multi-zone system) and it's always "outside"...it's in the big metal box with the condenser.

Woody's is top-rated in Checkbook Magazine for both quality and price. So is Vermonter16's choice of Duvall's. That's usually a pretty good sign. They are both based in Manassas. A few other operations that are also double top-rated from around NoVa...

Accu-Air (Sterling)
Advanced AC & H (Nokesville)
Cascades Comfort Svcs (Purcellville)
Chandler's (Falls Church)
Condon-Reed (Falls Church)
Delta Service (Alexandria)
Dillingham (Alexandria)
Dodson (Purcellville)
M R Stride (Vienna)
NoVa Mechanical Svcs (Sterling)
Richards H & AC (Falls Church)
Roberts H & AC (Fairfax)
Shanahan's H & C (Springfield)
Sherman's H & AC (Alexandria)
Tom Muse Service (Vienna)

That should be sufficiently diverse to avoid constituting an ad for any of them.

Did I say they replaced the compressor? Nope. They replaced a patch panel in the compressor. A bug crawled in and shorted it out.
