I think people can appreciate these suggestions, but I don't think most people would agree to it.
Usually, when young people get married (OP, I'm not sure how old your daughter is) the gifts help them get started in their new homes/lives - which people starting out usually need help with.
Also, I can confidently say that a big part of weddings is...the alcohol. Sure, it's to celebrate a marriage, but after that, it's the alcohol.

Wrong - we had a dry reception and a good time was had by all. Mostly because people can't be trusted not to wind up sh*tfaced. Been to too many weddings where someone or someones got drunk and stupid.

I hope you're being sarcastic. I certainly prefer to have alcohol available when I go to weddings (especially when it's an open bar), and I did provide alcohol at mine, but to say it's "required" is out of line, in my opinion. I would certainly respect someone else's wishes to have a dry wedding and I would equally respect their efforts to save money. I think you're missing the entire point of weddings!
