Hi there,
I need to sell some jewelry but really do not want to use a pawn shop.

Does any one know of a good place (not on line) where I can sell somewhat expensive items? I dont really have any diamonds, but I have a couple of expensive designer things that I would love to get rid of.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I have the following in my vast store of info as a good place to sell jewelry. Beats me why it's there, but someone must have recommended it somewhere along the line:

Century Stamps and Coin
6436 Brandon Ave
Springfield VA
(703) 569-0739

Good luck!

There is a jeweler in Dulles Town Center that buys stuff. It isn't a chain store and the name escapes me now, but he does custom stuff.

Jewelry is hard to unload for anything approaching a decent price. I found that out when I was handling my parents' estate...my mother had a lot of nice stuff, but the offers were ridiculously low.

So, I kept some, and gave some away to friends that would enjoy wearing it.

IMO, jewelry is a total waste of money!

Too much info coming, but here goes...they were gifts from a man that ended up being a really bad guy. Hoping to get some cash to help pay for my attorney! Believe me, I would not spend what he spent on some of these pieces.
I know I will not get what I want, but at least a little will help.

Thanks for the ideas of places to check out!

If you strike out, there is always eBay. I used to collect vintage costume jewelry and made many wonderful purchases there.

If your pieces of jewelry are designer, unique, etc. I recommend The Tiny Jewel Box in DC. Take any appraisals with you.

Also, there is a place in Tysons...I think called the Gold Exhange. They buy too.

Why are you afraid of going to a pawn shop? You don't have to "pawn" the jewelry. Many will buy it from you outright. Typcially... depending on the piece of jewellry... except to receive about 1/4 of the appraised value. That has been my experience, and I've sold all of my jewellry from my ex husband. Some to Tiny Jewel Box, and some other places.

I did see Tiny Jewel Box on yelp, I will try there.

I went to one pawn shop to sell one of my rings and the guy offered $25, I figure if I went to a place that knows designer jewelry then I will have better luck.

I also looked at ebay and they do have some of the same pieces for sale that I am trying to sell...I just have not yet used eBay but will if I do not find an alternative.

Thanks again for all your help!!

Tree,

Just happened across this discussion about selling jewelry on Clark Howard's website. Informative.

Is turning your old jewelry into cash a viable option? on clarkhoward.com

Hope it helps.
