Hi,
We are looking at townhouses in Ashburn area, we found very nice ones in the zipcode 20148, they are a little above our budget, but very nice and might be worth the money, the prices are around 400 k or upper 300's, we found some others in 20147, less expensive and newer construction (by 5 years), and still nice.. Someone told us that the nice ashburn is around zipcode 20148, is that true? is the other zip code bad? which one has better schools?
Thanks and I appreciate all responses.

Someone told you the nice Ashburn is 20148? That's funny! I am in 20147 (Ashburn Farm) and I can tell you ALL of Ashburn is nice...no matter what zip! All of the schools are good, so no worries there. Pick the home you love and you will be fine-no matter the zip.
We looked in Ashburn Farm (which I fell in love with due to the mature trees and such), Ashburn Village (which is nice, just a little older than the Farm I think), The Broadlands (which I love, but seems a little too cookie cutter for my taste), and Brambelton (which was nice, but cookie cutter and a little further out for us) I don't know what is which zip, but they are ALL VERY NICE!
Good luck!

^ agree all of ashburn is nice.

Ashburn village maybe starting to show it's age a bit and I beleive it's the only area with condos (but I could be wrong)

But ALL the schools are very good by NOVA standards and that means they are well above much of the rest of the US.

Seriously I can't think of a "not nice" area in Ashburn. (I used to live in Leesburg and it has some Not so nice areas...but even those are pretty mild)

As twinmma said, find the house you like the best and DON't go above your budget 1 iota.

20147 vs 20148 is like comparing Hellman's to Miracle Whip.

6 out of 8 foreclosures owned by Countrywide, in Ashburn, are in 20147--may or may not be relevant.

20148 has a higher price per home sold than 20147. Not sure of the exact number, but I think the difference is about $50K higher.

I don't think that is relevant...just where people happened to buy and get in over thier heads. (IMO, lol!)
Really, it is all very nice. Yes, Brambleton is newer but that comes with drawbacks like less trees and such and The Village and Farm are older which come with some drawbacks like a little older home. Mine is 13 years old, but in great shape...the development is lined with WONDERFUL people who take care of their yards and it is a real sense of community. SO, it all depends on what you are looking for.
Good luck with your search

REALLY, is there a bad part in Ashburn? I loved living in zip 20147 and we were just a mile away from the BCC, which also has the zip 20147

I loved living in Farm, b/c it had a country feeling, stores closeby and accesible to 495 and route 7.

Good luck with your hunt!

20148 probably has newer homes, but that also means they are being built in areas that are less convenient - except to the ridiculously overpriced Dulles Greenway, which everyone tries to avoid. Ashburn Village (20147) may be a little older, but has a nice mix of houses, townhomes, and condos and the HOA ensures everything stays in good shape. It is ideally located for access to shopping.
