So, what an abrupt change from fall, to winter. A potential winter storm is heading our way, and it could dump enough snow, even inside the beltway to whiten the ground, and as much as 6+ inches in the northern and western suburbs. While there is still considerable uncertainty with the forecast, it is likely that some, somewhere in Northern VA, esp those with any real elevation are going to see some snow. Winter storm watches are up for Loudoun, Clarke, Warren, Rappahannock, Frederick, and Shenandoah counties, as well as Northern Fauquier. Places with elevation could see 6+". The higher you are, the more you could see out of this system. Here is just one of the many snow fall maps for the area showing largely the same thing:

So, with that, post where you are and how much you got!

Photos also welcome and wanted too! Goodbye fall, Hello winter.

I am in denial. I'm too busy trying to find pumpkins to think about snow.

Yeah I'm skeptical. we might see a few flakes but I have a feeling that significant snow will stay in the mountains. At the same time I'll be checking the weather reports fiendishly I'm sure. I love snow but I'm so loving the pretty leaves. Either tomorrow will be a cold dreary day to stay indoors and drink hot chocalate. Alas I have errands that can't wait and tomorrow is the only day I have to get it done.

I guess we'll see. Personally, I doubt we'll get even anything sticking to the ground, much less 3-6 inches. Rain or snow though, I guess we're not going kayaking tomorrow.

Don't cave into the forecasters who are paid way too much for not knowing what they are talking about.

Besides. The wife and I are leaving for Fla. for 2 weeks early tomorrow so enjoy the storm.

Sadly, it's a fall storm, not a winter storm. Can someone please inform Mother Nature that winter does not start until December 21st? Thanks.

Well, the forecast keeps on changing. Now mostly rain and high winds for the immediate D.C. Metro inside the beltway. Loudoun County and points north and west are all now under winter storm WARNINGS, for 2-8" of snow. Obviously the 8" is going to be the very high elevations, with more like 1-2" in places like Sterling, Leesburg, Ashburn, etc. I suppose well see. I'm going to venture a guess that we either get 2-3" out here in Western Loudoun, or all rain, and wind. It is going to be cold, raw, nasty, and WINDY either way.

I love snow too, but really, not quite ready for this, so I wont be too terribly disappointed if we get only rain.
