I saw Fairfax County's 2011 SAT scores posted. Not sure anyone posted Loudoun's numbers (at least I did not find them). So I am posting Loudoun's 2011 SAT results.

Stone Bridge - 1655
Loudoun Valley- 1624
Briar Woods - 1611
Dominion-1608
Loudoun County - 1594
Heritage - 1581
Broad Run - 1573
Potomac Falls - 1571
Freedom - 1567
Park View - 1427

I updated the earlier listing to include the information that you provided. The 2011 SAT scores for Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun are in red, blue and green, respectively. As in prior years, what stands out about Loudoun is that, with the exception of Park View, there's a much narrower range among the schools than in the other jurisdictions. The scores all tend to be in the middle for NoVa, and comfortably above both state and national averages.

TJ 2184
Langley 1819
McLean 1772
Woodson 1750
Madison 1746
Oakton 1733
Yorktown 1724
Marshall 1672
Lake Braddock 1665
Robinson 1663
Stone Bridge 1655
Fairfax 1638
West Springfield 1632
Westfield 1627
Chantilly 1626
Loudoun Valley 1624
Herndon 1613
Briar Woods 1611
Centreville 1611
Washington-Lee 1609
Dominion 1608
Loudoun County 1594
Heritage 1581
Broad Run 1573
South County 1573
Potomac Falls 1571
South Lakes 1568
Freedom 1567
West Potomac 1550
Edison 1522
STATE AVERAGE 1516
Annandale 1514
NATIONAL AVERAGE 1500
Hayfield 1498
Lee 1498
Stuart 1487
Falls Church 1467
Mount Vernon 1463
Wakefield 1452
Park View 1427

It surprises me that Loudoun County's SAT scores are not higher. Loudoun County supposedly has the highest wealth in the nation, which generally correlates to high test scores. Yet, 7 of their schools are less than 100 points higher than the state average, and one is lower. And 8 high schools in Fairfax (not including TJ) score better than Loudoun's highest-scoring school. I would think Loudoun would show higher test scores than they do. Anyone have any guesses as to why this is?

I think Loudoun County doesn't have as many ultra-rich, ultra-driven people as Fairfax, but it also has fewer folks in poverty (hence the low scores in Stuart/Falls Church/Route 1-land.)

$500k in Leesburg gets you a nice SFH in a nice street within walking distance of downtown, or a 3500 square foot home in the Ashburn part of Leesburg.

That money in Vienna gets you a 1050 square foot rambler that someone might have updated in the past 20 years.

Or, Fairfax rich is richer than Loudoun rich.

How the h is Potomac falls 40 pts lower than Herndon? Median HHI there is about $20k higher.

I'm not one to praise the superindendent of suicide who still runs Fairfax schools, but either he's doing something right or Loudoun's just an inferior system.

That's not the first time someone has made a comment like that about Herndon HS. They may not recognize that the school pulls in students from some of the nicest parts of Reston.

The best predictor of collegiate success is educational attainment of the parents. Of course, educational attainment is a strong predictor of income. For each school, I'd look at the percentage of parents with a college degree. The variance for household income would sharpen the focus of the analysis.

Bottom line, parents grossly overpay for access to certain schools.

This discussion sounds like something posted tongue in cheek on "Things White People Like".

If I get her point, it's more that they like to discuss it incessantly, and as a competitive sport.
