Many years ago I heard of a place where you could pick up tulip bulbs that were planted in DC, dug up mid May, and then dumped somewhere.... I think it was near National Airport. Has anyone else heard about this place?

It's in Crystal City - Floral Frenzy. You can get bulbs in May, and geraniums and tropicals in October.

Crystal City's Floral Frenzy sounds close, but let me tell you a few more details. The DC Tulip bulbs are from Holland and the Netherlands. After they peak, the city would dig them up and dump them in a park near National Airport. About 5 years ago they stopped dumping them there and moved them to a new place, but I haven't heard of where the new place is. I was in my early 20's when I first learned about this and now have a home with a yard of my own. Of course, I am willing to work for it (during the Floral Frenzy), but I know there was one specifically to the DC Tulip bulbs. Thanks for replying though! I will definitely check out Crystal City soon!

Great to know about this. Is there a specific day or weekend? Or is it just open season once they've all bloomed?

If you look at the "past events" calendar on the right-hand side of that page, it seems as though they do choose specific dates.

Yep, the date for the upcoming Bulb Blitz is Friday, May 4th.

I wonder what they mean by "area residents"? I looked at the website. Can anyone just show up?

Cool--thanks. Maybe I'll show up. (I accidentally dug up and threw away a bunch of flower bulbs from our backyard before my wife later told me what they were. I thought they were English Ivy bulbs or something. So I have some rebulbification to do.)
