Hi all.. I am looking for a Catholic Church near Oakton. I know St Marks in Vienna and also have driven past St. John's in Reston. Any feedback would be great!

St. John Neumann is on Lawyers Road near its western terminus. More Reston than Oakton...

We are actually pretty close to Reston so that would work out well. Is it a welcoming parish? Progressive or Conservative?

My parents have been parishoners at St Mark's for over 20 years. When I was growing up I was very involved in their relegious education program and youth choir. My husband and I don't attend that church because we live in Leesburg now but would have to say that is a wonderful church, with a lot of different programs for any interest. I would encourage you to "church shop" for a while and see how you like all of the different ones in the area. I also remember attending St John Neumann several times while growing up because my friend's family went there. It also seemed like an inviting parish. Good luck in your search!

I'd be more Oakton than Reston, and perhaps not as Catholic today as I once was. St. John Neumann is run by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, a fairly young order that has been heavily involved in education. They were instrumental in the founding of OLGC in Vienna, and of Bishop Ireton and Paul VI high schools before founding this parish. If it's convenient, I think it would certainly be worth a try. Churches are a little like gloves...you may have to try on several before you find just the right fit.

I go to St. John Neumann and have been very happy there. It is a BEAUTIFUL parish now and is very welcoming.

The only "bad" thing I have to say is that there are never enough Christmas services, so it is standing-room-only and is crowded all the way into the vestibule, the hallway, and even out the door.

Thank you all for your help! This forum never disappoints! I think I am going to try St John Neuman. I had a less than great experience at the Catholic Church I was going to in Mclean so I am hoping this will be a better fit. It sounds like it will be.
