I like seeing TJs in a larger space. The larger ones seem to have better selection.

Although that kind of goes against their core strategy of limiting selection to reduce decision paralysis. I'd hate to see them turn into supermarket size stores.

Is that really their core strategy? I haven't heard that before. It seems like an odd strategy for a store to have, but on the other hand if it works who am I to question it?

Thanks for the reps.

Aldi Foods is coming to Fairfax County late 2012 and opening in Chantilly, VA area. Aldi Foods and Trader Joe's (TJ's) are owned by same company as I previously posted. Since we live and farm in Fauquier County, we shop at the Aldi Foods and TJ's too. The Aldi Foods located in Manassas on Liberia I like better that Portsmouth and the staff is better. I shop also and make the "shopping loop" to TJ's in Centreville, VA.

We have in Aldies outside of Winchester, VA (Kernstown/Stephens City) and I was not thrilled with it either. They have a limited selection so if you need a range of things (including various fruits and vegs) you may not get everything at one store.

And, they charge $0.25 to use a shopping cart??? You get the $0.25 back once you're done and "lock" the cart back in but the whole process really turned me off.

I wish they'd open a Trader Joes in our old Borders Books here in Winchester.

Did you miss what I said about the fact that Aldi has had a location in Fairfax County for several years?

Aldi - 8256 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309

While true that Aldi has had a presence in Fairfax County for some time....I think folks are talking about a location in a "normal" area. That RT 1 Aldi is in a rough area....about as bad as it gets in FFX CO.

I happened to be down that way one day and decided to check out Aldi. The first thing I noticed was the armed guard at the door. Aldi is a famously frugal company and if they're paying for armed security at that location...there's a good reason for it.
