For that price range, you will have to move out to Gainsville, Manassas, Bristow and your commute will still be horrible. Don't bother moving would be my answer!

I believe my old history teacher mentioned it had something to do with a guy named Lord Fairfax. Something about that area is significant to him. Can't say more on it though!

Stay away from an area that makes you dependent on travel on Route 66! That's a stopper and the road is cement, so little rock bits are constantly cracking people's windshields.
Me personally I would stay away from Falls Church, specifically Seven Corners which can be quite confusing even without rush hour traffic.

I have to wonder if the move right now might not be a little premature? On the other hand, they say that housing prices have alreayd reached their cap and have actually *begun falling*!! That hasn't happened in well over 10 years. The low season to sell houses around here begins around mid-October. So you could easily offer a semi-lowball offer on a house around here and have a chance of it sticking.

I actually hear that houses in the older Herndon areas are now being let go for around 415K. That would mean a hell of a commute for you but an established community and zero drive for the lady of your life. My SIL lives in Herndon and her hubby drives to DC every morning at 5:30 am and has no troubles. He's home usually by 3:30, again with no troubles. But he's the kind of guy who doesn't require alot of sleep either, so.....*shrug*
