We are finally in VA and we need to find a place to live within the next month. The husband and I are now considering Warrenton, we have heard nice things about the town and it is only a 20min commute to work. We are going to look at some houses there this weekend but I wanted some personal opinions about the town, schools and community in general. I am also a professional photographer and I am wondering if there is enough bussiness in the area for a mid size studio. We like the old town feeling and the more country setting, I just want to make sure the schools are good especially elementary schools since my daughter starts next year. Thank you for the advice, Fab.

Hi,

I just posted, but it vanished. Try this website for the school info:

GreatSchools.net

This should link you to the elementary schools (these scores are really good):

Virginia schools - VA elementary, middle and high school information

Warrenton is lovely. good luck!

I live just south in Culpeper. A lot of guys i work with live in Warrenton and LOVE it. There schools are very good and the area has just about everything you need. Warrenton has really boomed in the past 10 years. I think a studio in that area would do very well. Warrenton and Gainesville (just north on Rt 29) are becoming full of upper middle class people. They have some great wineries and restaurants in that area. Try the tapas and mojitos spanish restaurant, it's good times!!!

Thank you for the replies, we are going to look at houses there this weekend. But so far it sounds like a great town. Any dislikes? Negatives?
Thanks Fab

I pesonally love Warrenton and would move there if my wife didn't love Culpeper so dang much. Warrenton is a nice mix of the southern little city with a hint of the bigger northern va. influence (mainly because a lot of people commute to northern va and live there). Schools are very good and so is the hospital.

Nice family town--Mexican families, that is. The schools take a back seat to Fairfax County, always have, always will. It will be like your kid going through life with a handicap.

I haven't noticed that Warrenton is only or mostly Mexican families at all. I don't know much about the schools but that handicap comment seems a bit far fetched to me.

I notice there are a lot of new neighborhoods going up around Warrenton proper also.

Thanks for all the responses, but after looking in Warrenton, we decided it wasn't the town for us. We are now looking at other places. Thanks for all the responses.

I agree. I have multiple co-workers who have had kids in those schools and they all are doing very well (al are in Va. colleges now). I would not say it's "mostly" Mexican either. If you were to mention a specific neighborhood or street than you may have a point. But I totally disagree with the word "mostly".

When I lived in NoVa, I used to go through Warrenton often on my way out to Shenandoah NP. I don't think the comment about Mexican families is correct, or appropriate. It is true that Fairfax schools are rated highly, but they have their own set of problems associated with growth and gangs.

It would be fair to day that Warrenton has experienced high growth and sprawl...
