Anyone else go to the Summer Blast Off concert at Wolftrap tonight? This year featured quite a surprise--a freak thunderstorm adding special effects to the 1812 Overture. One moment we were having a perfect evening and then SURPRISE!

We had thunder, lightning, and the beat of the rain adding effects... but the most dramatic was the screeching from every direction as all the people on the hill realized "OMG it's raining!" and then had to grab everything and duck for cover. And even though we got wet with everyone else I must admit it was bizarrely cool--the pandemonium hit a dramatic point right in beat with the music, and then calmed down as the piece calmed down.

Most awesome special effects for a concert by the Marine Band EVER! And to my surprise, they still had the fireworks afterwards.

That sounds incredible! We almost had the same experience several years ago there during J.C.Superstar musical. As the first act closed out, at the scene of the tomb and Gethseneme, a storm that had been approaching broke loose with thunder. Again, talk about nature's timing.

We were there. More crowded than last year. 1812 overture is not exactly the best classical piece.
