I've got to arrange a carpool next week for some kids that need to be at the Hylton Performing Arts Center (west of Manassas, I guess on the Prince William GMU campus) at 5:00. We're coming from West Springfield. What do you think would be an average commute at that time of day? I'm guessing over an hour and am afraid I'm being overly optimistic at that.

Thanks!

An hour should be fine but that's assuming no accidents happen blocking the roads. I leave at 3PM from work and I'm in Manassas within 40 minutes. You'll be leaving a little later meaning more traffic but an hour can easily work. You can come the back roads meaning more lights or take 95 to 234 to Manassas for a straight shot all the way. 95 would be a longer drive but you can use HOV so it might be the better choice. Just get off on exit 152 towards Manassas and stay on it until you get to University Blvd and make the right. Hylton is up on the left. When you pass the RT 28 exit your turn for University Blvd is the next light.

Really? It's faster to take 95 from Springfield south, and then head west? It would never have occurred to me to go that way, since it's so much longer. Thanks for the tip!

It's really a crap shoot that time of day. 95 won't have all the traffic lights of course Distance wise it is longer but I'd still go that way but listen to WTOP before leaving.

If you are in West Springfield, you can get to Manassas (by Buckhall) in about 25-27 minutes during Rush hour by doing the following.

Midway down Pohick, turn L onto South Run continue to Silverbrook.

Turn R on Silverbrook, continue to Ox Rd.
Turn R on Ox, continue until Henderson Rd.
Turn L on Henderson, Continue until Yates Ford Rd.
Turn L on Yates Ford Road.

This will dump out onto the PW Parkway right by Buckhall.
