Looking at apartments near Fort Belvoir that are a decent price, safe, and close to Fort Belvoir. After doing a lot of research, it looks like Skyview Apartments off of Skyview Drive in Alexandria are good. They are under $1100/month and got a 94% on Apartment Ratings website.

Anyone have advice on this or other apartments? Using Google Map, the area around it looks pretty shady. Don't see much in the way of malls or grocery stores that I like to shop at. I also see a lot of fast food places I don't eat at either.

Thanks.

What kind of grocery stores do you prefer? There's a Bestway, Safeway, and Aldi closeby. There's a great produce market just up the road too.

I want clean stores at good prices and some type of membership benefits with coupons. I grew up in NOVA but left and now I might be coming back. I remember Giant and Safeway used to be rip off places back in the day. Also I remember Shoppers Food Warehouse was a trash dump. I just want new places with clean food. I also looked on Google Maps and saw the only places in the areas in terms of restaurants are fast food places and ethnic places. Where are the Outback Steakhouses at? Thanks.

Skyview is probably the best apartment complex on the richmond highway corridor. Small, quiet, and close enough to Ft. Belvoir to the south and the city/entertainment to the north...Safeway and the post office is within walking distance, and I'm not sure why your search only had fast food places b/c there's a small shopping center about 2 miles up (Hylba Valley), then a few minutes up Route 1 North you have Outback, Fridays, Chipotle, Chili's, Famous Daves, etc. That's all within a 5-7 minute drive from Skyview...Not sure what part of NOVA you grew up in, but for the price and proximity to your job, I'd definitely recommend Skyview...

Hey CAVA, what's the produce market you're referring to? I'd love to check it out

There's a Costco being built at the site of the old Mount Vernon Multiplex theater. Supermarkets have gotten a lot more competitive since you lived here as there are a lot more options, including Wal Marts and Targets that sell groceries. You won't be all that far from the new Wegmans going in near Telegraph and Beulah.

I also had a question about the roach problems I have seen on apartment reviews for many apartments in the area. Is this true or is it just the few angry renters that leave bad reviews for apartments? On Apartment Ratings, many of the apartments other than Skyview (94% approval) have very low ratings of under 40%. Many complain of roaches, bugs. Others complain of bad maintenance service and thin walls.

Rorers. It's just South of the Bestway and Thai Herbs on that side (East) of Route 1. You can get the same or better quality local produce you'd get at a farmers market but at supermarket (or lower) prices. You can also get steamed crabs there.

Is Route 1 bad in the mornings? I heard people complain about the road going to Ft Belvoir. Is there any other tricks to get to Ft Belvoir? I was thinking if it get really bad, maybe I can buy a bicycle or get my motorcycle back and ride on the side streets?

Right now I live in Pittsburgh and I live basically less than 2 miles away from work and it takes 5 minutes. There was a time where it used to take 45 min to hr to get home from work when I lived at my other place. That was hell. I used to come home daily. Now I come home daily.

Right now looking at Skyview and Abbott's which are both nearly the same distance but I need to see these places in person. Google Earth can only show so much LOL

There are no side streets that would work getting to Belvoir along Rt 1. That is the problem. There are different sides to Ft Belvoir as well, each with it's own gate and access issues. Do you know where you are working?
