Kind of ironic when most crime happens when people aren't home don't you think?
It just feeds irrational crime paranoia. How about a day when we dont drive to prevent car accidents or don't go outside to avoid lyme disease? Those are a lot more of a problem than crime.

I think you missed the point. Of course it happens when we aren't home, that is why we should get to know our neighbors. It does not promote "staying home", but simply getting to know one's neighbors and local law enforcement and fire fighters and to foster building a sense of community.

As for the original question, I've never actually participated in one of these events but I think a lot of communities do. I'm not sure which ones. In Cascades we have a fair number of "meet your neighbor" events but I'm not sure if there's anything organized for NNO.

our courtyard within our subdivision had a cook out/pot luck, but we do on July 4, and at least one other weekend every summer. This was only different in that we had a FFX police officer show up with things for the kiddies.

It just feeds irrational crime paranoia. How about a day when we dont drive to prevent car accidents or don't go outside to avoid lyme disease? Those are a lot more of a problem than crime.
