I've never seen such a bumper crop. The squirrels are workin' overtime.

Al Gore says Virginia is swinging, so the weather and altitude might cause some delayed responses and unknown answers. Kind of nutty if you ask me. I wonder if ROVA is seeing acorns like NOVA. Who cares about ROVA though. laugh laugh laugh

They run in cycles like the cicadas.

They are constantly plunking down on the roof and deck. My wife is a nervous nelly and always thinks the sound is someone breaking into the house. "No honey, that's just the hundred-thousandth acorn falling..."

I think this was the worst of the 4 falls we've been in our house. There are 15 or so oak trees (~10 80'+) on our 1/3 acre lot. We bought this tool called the Nut Wizard, which is basically a wire basket that traps the acorns. It works nice when there is a low to moderate amount, but there were so many this year that we just ended up raking and using a shovel to get rid of them. Last year there were hardly any.

There are a lot, but for some reason I find it fun to walk on them and hear the crunch, crunch. I've only been hit by one once though (and considering I walk everyday in an acorn infested area, it kind of surprises me).

Two nights ago my little dog, in the middle of the night, would just randomly (so I thought) howl for a minute and stop. I have never heard him howl in the 5 years I've had him. Whenever I would come downstairs to the basement level to see what was the matter I wouldn't see a thing. Upstairs and back to bed I would go, then a minute later, more howling. Finally, I stood on the second floor at the top of the stairway and heard a little "plink" and the dog would howl. It was acorns falling down the flue of the fireplace and hitting the damper.

These are my favorite acorns: a chocolate Hershey's Kiss, a Mini Nilla wafer, a piece of a pretzel stick, and some chocolate frosting to hold it all together:
