Hello,
I just got a flier in the mail about this weekend's (October 22-23) Loudoun & Fairfax County Home Show in the Michael I Son Sportsplex in Sterling. (it is close to the Dulles Mall)
I suggested this to the girlfriend who likes doing open houses in and around her Vienna Va neighborhood because she likes to see new styles and setups even though she has no plans on buying a new house or doing any upgrading to her current home at the moment.
Here is the link Loudoun & Fairfax County Home Show
What I was not sure about was if this was one of those shows where you are free to walk around and check out the new wares without the hard sell treatment.
I mean are there pushy salespeople insisting you leave name/email address at these sorts of shows or is this more like a boat show where everyone is welcome to basically check out the nice wares in a chill environment?
My girlfriend is one of those who gives out her contact information to some of the pushy type people and then is hounded later and they figure out real quick that she is too polite to say no.
Has anyone been to this show before?
Thanks in advance.

The only home show I went to at the Dulles expo center was basically useless. Yes they are trying to get you to leave information with them for selling later and some booths are just a bunch of guys trying to pull you in and I find it annoying. A few places actually had examples of work to look at.

This looks like a different event than the one I went to, as I think they technically charged admission (my tickets arrived for free, unsolicited), so maybe it will be different.

For me, I'll just stick to internet research and avoid the sales people until I have to deal with them.

Contractors set up booths showing off their results and if you are interested you can talk more with them. No pushy sales you are welcome to tell them you are just looking and they won't bother you. Definitely not an open house where they have rooms set up and you go tour them. Think more like lots of brochures and pictures.

Agreed with the above though that it is a waste of time unless you are specifically looking to hire a company for a home improvement project (kitchen remodel, painting, roofing, etc).
