Hi. I live in Woodbridge and the neighbors next to me are always outside in the side yard welding. This is in between our houses. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is legal.

I have already had to deal with them out there spray painting and it getting all over our 2 vehicles.

I am just about over these folks...

I don't know of any laws specifically outlawing the practice. You might have a case if they're conducting a business in their home without being licensed, or maybe if they are making a racket at night and causing a disturbance. I take it you don't have an HOA? Maybe something in the bylaws you can utilize.

No, there is no HOA. They are running a business out of their home. The county has been in there once and cleared out some people. They were building make-shift bedrooms in the basement and a kitchen and all of that had to come out. They were building it without a permit.

The people are back. There are about 20 people in a single family home. They are always making a racket, all day long.

I had not thought of that... yes they do. They are doing it right out in the open out here and they aren't even wearing welding helmets...that's on them. The sparks just fly every which way.

I would suspect you could call county zoning for violations of occupants per dwelling. That many people is a definete fire hazard.

Yuck. Sounds like you have a serious 'trash' problem.

All kinds of potential violations. As stated, zoning, occupancy, and fire code.

Possibly environmental too.

Here is a link to Prince William County's municipal code. You can peruse their laws at this link: Municode

I recommend using Microsoft Internet Explorer to browse the code. The MuniCode site isn't Firefox or Opera friendly.

I bet there's a treasure-trove of laws you can find which they may be violating.

Good luck.
