As anyone knows, having trees removed can be downright expensive. Anyone here know of any local companies that are insured/bonded that are reasonable in price? The last company I was using seems to have gone under. I hear the owner might be in jail for robbery. One tree is very large and close to my garage so I won't just use anyone with a chain saw. This tree will definitely need a climber.

Wonder why Adirondack Tree Experts is listed on the NOVA page when they only work in DC and MD? It's an ad by Google.

I received good pricing from Arbogast Lawn and Tree, Inc. They didn't cut down the tree, but trimmed back some very large branches overhanging my roof.

I've been pleased with two companies I've used in the past. The first is a small family-run tree and outdoor service, Alger's Exterior Services, 540-219-1777. He's done work on trees very close to my house, has his own tree climber, and is reliable and professional. His prices may not be the cheapest around, but for a tree so close to a house I think I'd rather hire someone who know what he's doing. The second is a very large company, Davey, that has an office in Chantilly, 703-327-9060. They will give free estimates, and I found the estimate they gave me for removing a large branch overhanging a neighbor's property reasonable enough to use them. If your tree is close enough to the street. they can also use a crane to remove sections as the tree climber cuts them.

Good luck.

This company did a good job for us, for a tree that was very close to the house:

Did you think his pricing was reasonable? I got a quote from him once that was just totally off the charts. He seemed quite knowledgable and like his guys would do good work though. I ended up going with these guys instead becasue they were a lot cheaper and they did a great job: Tree Care | Tree Removal | Northern Virginia, DC, MD | Twin Oak Tree Care

Living in a neighborhood called "Tall Oaks" I get a lot of guys coming by to solicit tree work. A lot of them just seem sketchy to me. Always make sure you get a copy of the insurance cert.

We used JL Trees for removal of a very large oak tree that had been damaged in a storm. They did a great job at a pretty low price (2K). They've been around for a very long time.

Agree about Richard's pricing. We used to use them for everything, but recently they've given us some quotes that aren't even close to competitive. They definitely do a good job, but we use JL Trees now, because they're just as good and well-established, but they charge reasonable prices.

I never use the ones that solicit work at my door. Most of them disappear quickly if you ask to see copies of insurance.
