Our house has a half bath in the basement. I believe there is just enough room to make it a full bath room. Can someone from VA area (especially closer to Woodbridge, VA) recommend a good company? We definitely prefer to have a bonded/licensed company to work on this. We have had folks come out to give an estimate, one said they can't do it, the other quoted us an arm and a leg ($26k). There will some plumbing work needed to move the toilet to a different position AND adding a shower.

Did try home advisor and the cost varies but prefer to have someone who has been in the business. If anyone has had this done to their house before, please advise and share your experience?

thank you very much!!!

I did it in Springfield for 1000 usd 31 years ago... The project needs to be divided into 2 or 3 pieces.. First being the drainage.. J trap installed with connection to toilet drain.. and those people do not want to mess with drywall. If you have a post tension stressed slab.. or whatever they call it when they build on undesirable land, which is often... It will be much more.

I paid someone to do it, relatively close to the OP, who seems ready to spend 10 to 20k too much on a basement shower that will only increase the home value by 5000 , and also offered them sound advice on how to divide the project into parts and avoid ripoff, all in one companies.. and just because a company is a licensed contractor, doesn't mean the people doing the work are, and there is a good chance they are not even legally in the US. A warning about the slabs might save someone from doing several hundred thousand in damage to their house..i think you have been sitting on your flamingo, or simply have a Northern Virginia stick up your ###.

Also talk to Two Poor Teachers. They really have a niche business of upgrading baths and kitchens in older homes in the area.

House is built in '05 and per alexandriaVA11 recommendation, I reached out to the Only Bathrooms company. The guy is very knowledgeable and I did mention only need to add a shower to an existing half bath in the basement. I did learn from past quotes for the work that I declined to go with, that it will require drainage, re-positioning the toilet, and new tiles for the shower wall. Only Bathrooms said if I planned to spend in the ball park of 9-10k then they will talk, otherwise don't bother.

thanks weezycom - i'll try reach out to them.
