Greensboro N.C.-based The Fresh Market will open a specialty grocery store at One Loudoun, at Route 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway.

It will be the chain's second location in Northern Virginia, and its tenth in the commonwealth. Construction of the store is expected to begin this month, with completion slated for this fall.

"We are excited about our continued expansion in the Mid-Atlantic, and in Northern Virginia in particular," said Senior Vice President of Real Estate Randy Kelley.

It's no Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, but way better than yet another Harris Teeter.

I think it blows Trader Joe's out of the water. Love Fresh Market for produce and meats. I haven't found a better NY strip than theirs. It can't replace a regular grocery store, at least not for us, because of their limited selection for certain items. Their brand of cabernet is surprisingly good too.

I've never been to a Fresh Market. I'm intrigued and glad I live in Sterling now! Is it at least somewhat more affordable than Whole Foods? I continue walking into Trader Joe's stores after hearing others rave about it, and almost always walk out empty-handed.

I'm not a fan. I find all of their items to be overpriced. I'd only go in there if there was something specific I wanted that I couldn't get elsewhere.

It is pricey. And they don't have nearly the selection of household items as other grocers. They carry alot of organic stuff and higher end brands it seems i.e. no Lays potato chips. We don't shop there alot except for specialty items(steak, crab cakes, coffee, ice cream brand we like that only they seem to carry, sometimes wine, etc). It's nice to have around in addition to a Giant or Wegmans or whatever for your main shopping.

I read somewhere at one point that a Trader Joe's was going in where the old Borders is. Doesn't appear to be happening, though.

Oh, ha, I read it on here!

It boggles my mind that Newport News in Hampton Roads has a TJ (and it's not the only one in that region) but Loudoun County -- the county with the highest median household income in the country -- does not have one.

If you want one in LoCo, remember to tell the cashiers at TJ your zipcode. I think the compiled data do get forwarded to the corporate HQ for branch placement.

Maybe since they're NC based, they'll actually stock Diet Sundrop! I've failed at bribing that other NC outfit that has peppered Loudoun with locations. Such a disappointment, HT!
