Best Buy has announced the 50 stores that will be closed by May 12. Amazingly, only one store in Nova got cut (Landmark Mall). Kind of a surprise, since you should see the number that got cut in CA and the Chicago area. I thought the one out here in Sterling might make the list. Sorry for Landmark's BB but glad ours was spared.

One more nail in Landmark's coffin? The should shoot it and put it out of its misery.

its not in the mall, its free standing, next to a (mexican?) restaurant. Hasn't been there THAT long, where circuit city used to be. Won't effect us directly, as the one in Fair City is closer, when we have a need for a Best Buy.

I'm much sadder about the death of Borders, which though it was tragically unhip to shop there, was a very nice place with (in my experience) good service. Of course I don't have an ebook reader, so Im not part of the replacement yet (whereas I have purchased software and hardware on line)

I'm surprised that the one in Potomac Station isn't closing. It's small, the selection is limited, and it's not far from the one by Dulles Town Center.

I also forgot to mention the one in Baileys - and the one in Springfield isn't far away - they really have a lot around here, closing the one near Landmark seems pretty reasonable (and the one in Potomac Yards isn't that terribly far from the Landmark store)

In some ways I think the smaller stores will fare better than the big ones.

I wonder what will move into the Landmark location?

I don't know how they stay in business; the sales staff have no idea what they're talking about, and you can get better deals all over the Internet. The only time I've bought anything from them was a subwoofer I bought on a major discount the day after Thanksgiving. (And no, I didn't stand in a line; I bought it online and then picked it up.)

I vote for a Joe's Crab Shack to go where the BB is (formerly Comp USA).
