I was just in court - the judge said no points. I also read the little pamplet about points - it said no points for first violation.

I'm 99.5% sure about this man.

hmm mustve changed it then unless there are periods in which the county/state cops are cracking down and enforce those points. you hear it on the radio too (just like the seatbelts)

The police do not "enforce points". They enforce the law. Points are how the Dept of Motor Vehicles administers their Driver Improvement Program.

Some violations are assessed points and some are not (or in the case of HOV, only second or subsequent offenses are).

Example: the police can crack down on speeding and you definitely get points for speeding....or they can crack down on expired license plates or inspection stickers, which carry no points, no matter how many citations one gets for those.

I've seen up to 8 cars at a time pulled over there. The cops just stand on the side and waive cars into line on the shoulder.

It should also be noted that the penalty for various infractions is the subtraction of safe driving points from your record. So you don't actually "get" points, you have them taken away.

Yes, IF one has safe driving points (max of 5 can be accumulated). Violations carry 3,4, or 6 demerit points, which are canceled by safe driving points (one for one) if you have any/enough of them.

While they listed things like roadside pickup and painting/cleaning as possibilities what everyone that I saw ended up doing was taking out the garbage at the Annandale Nova campus and the George Mason campus. The outside garbage cans that is.

I ended up working at the Annandale campus which seems to be a 2 man job while everyone else went to George Mason. I ended up walking around the trash cans pulling the bags out, tying a knot, replacing the liner, putting them in the back of the pickup and eventually in the dumpster. I also had to walk around the parking lot with a grabber picking up misc trash like wrappers etc. I got lucky in that the previous week was spring break so there wasn't much to do.

If you get a chance I'd try for the annandale campus as the guy who oversees this there is a nice guy, he's real laid back on top of that.
