After 12 years in N.Va., I'm still trying to find a stylist I like.
Can anybody recommend someplace in Fairfax or Arlington?

Been to a few hair salons in Old Town, the Bradlee Center shopping strip in Alexandria, a place on Little River Turnpike near where Campbell & Ferrara plant nursery has been, PR at Partners in Shirlington, Paul Mitchell training school at Tysons and just haven't found somebody who listens but also has some creativity.

I wouldn't say I'm really hard to please (ok, maybe I chose my forum name for a reason!), I just don't like waking up the next day and realizing that my haircut relies on styling tricks that I can't replicate.)

(Short- to medium-length hair, getting finer as I ... um... become more vintage!)

Hey persnicketygal, My husband and I went through the same situation a couple of years ago. I would highly recommend: Statements The Salon

I love the fact that it is a nice salon but not snooty. There are a variety of stylists to choose from. We both go to Angelina. I heard that Jen or Jennifer (I think that's her name) is really good too. But, I haven't seen a bad haircut in that place since I've been going and there are a lot of stylists and it's really busy.

By the way - I get up about 3:30am and I DO NOT have the time, nor do I want to make the time to style my hair. I have fine medium long hair. It used to be on the very short side but I chose to grow it out and Angelina gives me a cut that I can just get out of bed and brush or a quick little blow dry and go with. I am not styling my hair.

Highly recommend Salon Prive in Lorton Station (John and Omar are incredibly talented, and I'm sure all their stylists are, given the great atmosphere there). Excellent at cutting hair and working with what your hair is going to do naturally. I recommended John to two people and they were both very happy with the results. Hope you find a salon that works for you!

I go to Statements and use Jen.

I have fairly short, choppy hair so it is important that it's "done" well enough that it works for me in the morning.

I think Statements is as good a salon that you'll find anywhere else, you do have to work to find a stylist that can work with your hair and get to know you. I have found that it may take 4-5 cuts with one stylist to get there. My daughter goes to Liz who works at their "On the Water" salon and she really likes her best (she has fairly long hair).

Anyone know where I can find a salon that uses Wella Hair color? It's the best hair color liquid but hard to come by in salons.

I see Amy at PR & Partners in Oakton. I've been going to her for about 7 years or so and she does cuts, highlights, and color for me. For the past 20 months or so I've been driving about 450 miles round trip to have her do my hair.

Amy take a lot of time with my cut. She listens to what I want (when I arrive, she says "talk to me"), makes recommendations, and will make sure you are satisfied before you leave. She is a senior stylist with lots of experience, and rarely runs late.

Below is Wella's site/info for Wella salons that use their products. Just type in zip code, etc. for details--enjoy!

And it was because of your recommendation ChristineVA that my husband and I wound up going to Statements in the first place. I never did get to try out Jen because she wasn't available and I needed my hair cut 'right away', lol! It all worked out though. We drive almost 30 minutes to go there but it is worth it!

I second Salon Prive - I go to Omar and have followed him from his last salon. I have lots of hair -thick wavy and have been growing it out for about 3 years, but have massive amounts of gray now..he does wonders, it has never looked this good. He listens to whatever I say I want.
