Hello,

I am moving to Fredericksburg to start a new job in the middle of August. I currently live in the Midwest, and have lived in Kentucky as well. I'm a bit intimidated by the process of choosing a place to rent. The Craigslist rental section seems to be dominated by only a few property groups. The most common I have observed are Salem Run, England Run, Madison Falls, and Timber Ridge (and probably a few others I can't remember). Are any of these any good? I'm looking for somewhere safe for my wife and 2 year old, preferably dog-friendly. In my experience some of these large complexes in college and university areas are poorly run, although they were in parts of the country that aren't as nice as Northern Virginia.

I'm really excited for the move, even though it's probably too soon to start picking out somewhere to rent. If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. I'm hoping to only rent for a year or so and, if the employment goes well, buy a house and settle down.

In summary, I am thinking a 2 or 3 BR pet-friendly place. Thank you for your help!

What kind of housing are you looking for: an apartment, condo, townhouse or single family home? What is your budget?

I don't have a significant preference for type of unit. I think a single family home would be my top choice, but I'm aware that might not be realistic.

In terms of budget, I'd say probably a maximum of $1200/mo.

I just moved here a month ago and have been looking for a home in the fredericksburg area. I have spent a lot of time looking through all the areas. If you need a realtor to assist you with your move whether it's renting or buying. I have a guy that is awesome. He's made my whole transition here seamless. I spent 14 years overseas and he's been my saving grace. He's been in the area for 40+ years and knows fredericksburg in and out. If you are interested in more information, shoot me a private message.

King George Homes for Sale, Property Search in King George - Home Page is a great site and run by my guy Don Duft.

Thanks, Novabound! So are you renting now? Are realtors helpful when renting, since in the long run they wouldn't make money off of me?
