Hello, I recently moved to Lake Ridge off of Old Bridge Road. I currently have a tough commute to Centreville on Route 28, but will be switching jobs soon. One job offer is in Burke and the other is in Springfield off of Backlick Road. The positions pay about the same, but I wanted to know which one would have the easier commute. Preferable, I want my commute time to be around 30 minutes or less. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Does either (or both) position offer flexible scheduling? How far down Old Bridge are you starting? When I lived in Lake Ridge, I could zip right up Old Bridge because I left at about 6-6:30am, and that made a big difference versus leaving after 7am when you're facing more commuters and school traffic. Some days could take me 15-20 minutes just to reach 123 if I left later, but I was starting pretty close to the PW Pkwy end of Old Bridge.

I think both of these commutes are going to be pretty equal in time - give or take 5-10 minutes. Although, I would venture to guess that Burke would be the easiest via Rt. 123 (versus 95N to Springfield).

Unfortunately, the positions don't offer flexible scheduling and I would be leaving at 6:45 am, but I could leave at 6:30 if that helps. I would have to report by 7:30 am for both positions, but my main concern would be to cut down on my commute. Do you have to take I-95 to get to Springfield?

Traffic on Old Bridge Road at 6:45 am is not congested. You can get to Burke via Rte 123 in 20 minutes.

Depends on where in Springfield. It likely will be the most direct route, but there are a bunch of permutations of back roads depending on your destination.

I'll agree that I think Burke would be the easier drive with fewer potential areas for congestion. Even if you don't take 95 to Springfield, once there is an accident or something on 95, all those other roads to Springfield are going to get backed up. That's much less likely to happen going up 123 to Burke.

Thank you all so much. I think I will go with Burke then. I am afraid of I-95 and getting to work in 20 minutes would be good.

There are a couple of different routes to take from Lake Ridge to Backlick Road in Springfield. I-95 is the most direct, and therefore, may be the quickest way.

I live off Old Bridge road in Lake Ridge as well. I-95 is crowded by 6:30 - 6:45, but there are backroads you can take to get to Springfield without too much trouble.
