Do you know if you'll be taking the Metro or driving? And will you both be working in the same area (sounds like that's the case) or commuting to different locations?

My husband will be driving if that dosent give us many good options he can take the metro to make up time, I will be staying home with our baby son, so looking for a good area for good friendly family life!!

The 1800 will limit you almost exclusively to apts or condos and a few older small townhomes within 30-45 minutes of 20001. Actually at that price range you will have to look away from the metro, as 1800 will only get you a 1BR at the closer metro oriented locations with the exception of a few areas like Huntington or Braddock. Driving to that area of DC limits you pretty much to Arlington and the City of Alexandria.

You might want to look into the MD side instead of VA. Areas like Rockville/Gaithersburg or Bowie/Crofton would make your commute more manageable by using metro and you could find homes or townhomes in your price range. Prices in NoVa tend to be much higher as most the jobs are in DC, Arlington, and the Tysons/Dulles corridor.

If you're looking for a small-town feel, check out Falls Church. You can easily find a 2-br apartment within your price range there, but that's probably it... but you'd also be close to the metro.
